The
RCDC at Haywood Community College is a Five Star Rated Child Care Center

The
mission of the Regional Child Development Center at Haywood Community College
shall be to
provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging educational environment that will
instill and foster a continuing desire for learning among children, families,
and students.
In
fulfilling this mission the Regional Child Development Center shall seek to
achieve the following ends:

To
prepare qualified early childhood educators who will demonstrate
professional knowledge, abilities, dispositions, values, and attitudes
regarding child development and learning, curriculum development and
implementation, family and community relationships, assessment and
evaluation, professionalism, and practice during field experiences. |

To provide
quality and innovative education in a state-of-the-art early childhood
facility as a model for providing childcare, early childhood education,
teacher education, and parent education. |
 |
To provide space
in the Center for a state-of-the-art childcare facility, to be known as The
Children’s Centre, for childcare services and learning opportunities. |
 |
To provide
resources to parents, including general information on child development and
parenting, as well as specific assistance in dealing with developmental
difficulties. |
 |
To serve as a
learning laboratory for students enrolled in early childhood education
curricula and to foster observation, clinical experience, and internship
opportunities in regional childcare centers operated by public entities,
private institutions and organizations, and United Methodist and other
faith-based institutions. |
 |
To provide
pre-service education of prospective teachers and an opportunity for
students from a variety of majors to participate in field experience
opportunities in the child development center. |
 |
To offer
outreach and on-site technical assistance to childcare providers, United
Methodist churches and other faith-based organizations as well as private
and public entities, throughout the seven western-most counties of North
Carolina known as Region A. |
 |
To provide
outreach, early child development education, and linkage to technology for
families in Haywood and surrounding counties. |
 |
To offer models
of teaching to other educators in the region. |
 |
To serve as a
vehicle for research, demonstration, evaluation, and dissemination regarding
the teaching-learning process and the study of children while utilizing the
resources available on a college campus. |
