In the B-K AGE Degree Program a
student completes the necessary general education requirements for
transfer to any of the instructions University of North Carolina System
and the set of prerequisite courses required by Western Carolina
University in its Birth-Kindergarten BS degree program. |

Childhood Associate |

The intent of the Associate in
Early Childhood Education Program is to provide students with the skills
necessary for a career in child care and development. This program
includes the prerequisite courses required by Western Carolina
University in its Birth-Kindergarten BS degree program and additional
course work in early childhood education. |

The Certificate in Early
Childhood Education provides a foundation for work in childcare and
child development. |
| Teacher

This program prepares individuals
to work with children from infancy through middle childhood in diverse
learning environments. Students combine learned theories with practice
in actual settings with young children under the supervision of
qualified teachers. |

This program provides forty-eight
semester hours of coursework designed to prepare students for employment
in the public schools as a paraprofessional under Title I of the
"No Child Left Behind Act." Under the provisions of the act
paraprofessionals hired after January 8, 2002, must successfully
complete a testing option, have 48 semester hours of college credit, or
an associate degree. |
